What Features Are Homebuyers Looking For In A New Home?

November 7, 2021 by Jill McFeron Leave a Comment

New Home BuyerWhen purchasing a new home, there are several factors that many people consider essential. For example, the house’s location is crucial to some people, while others may value certain aspects of the interior design or exterior style.

Location – One thing that most homebuyers tend to look for is access to local amenities and attractions. Most individuals want to live as close as possible to restaurants, stores, and entertainment. Those who live in the city may be looking for a home near public transportation, while those who live in the country might want more privacy and feel comfortable with a reasonable driving distance to shopping.

Floor Plan – Aside from location, another essential factor for many people is the floor plan of the house. Some individuals prefer a more open floor plan, while others want separate rooms with minimal shared walls. For instance, single-story homes are ideal for older home buyers or people with mobility challenges. On the other hand, a two-story or multi-level home could be more suitable for larger families or people who desire higher levels of privacy.

Turnkey Homes – In many cases, homebuyers seek turnkey homes that are move-in ready with little or no renovation necessary. Buyers may not want the hassle of dealing with old appliances, the potential for leaky roofs, or the need to renovate outdated decor. Home sellers who wish to market their homes effectively are well-served to invest in staging services to put the house in the best light possible.

Energy-Efficiency – For some people, it is also essential that their new house is energy-efficient and eco-friendly. The appliances in a home may affect the environment and the type of heating and cooling system used. Some homebuyers may want their next house to have a smaller carbon footprint, so they try to find homes that require less energy and water.

Alternative Energy – Those who are especially environmentally conscious may be interested in looking for homes with solar panels or other types of alternative energy sources. These features can allow the homeowner to produce enough power and save money on monthly utility bills.

Green Homes – In some cases, homebuyers may be seeking out homes that are certified as green or eco-friendly. These can include homes built with sustainable materials and meet specific energy standards set by an organization like the US Green Building Council.

Interior Style and Finishes – Some individuals prefer to have a specific look in their homes. For instance, those who enjoy modern decor might be interested in contemporary home designs. In addition, some people may prefer to have specific features such as stone countertops or double sinks in the master bathroom.

While this is not an all-inclusive list, all of these factors can play a role in the home buying process. Location, floor plan, energy efficiency, and style preferences can all contribute to which house an individual chooses.
